It’s a basic principle taught early in life: if you are having trouble solving a problem or getting a satisfactory result, then look at the problem in a new way. We were tested in “Problem Solving” in elementary school – written out puzzles, math equations, and situations. The ability to solve problems is a skill that is vital to the upward movement of society and thus, we nurture it in our young learners. As we grow older, our problem solving continues, but as we find tried and true tricks to solve issues, we tend to use them exclusively. Also as we grow older, our identity, morals, and view of the world are solidified, greatly narrowing our outlook on life. Through this narrowing outlook and the rigamarole and routine of life, come the comfortable 'rut' within which we all tend to live. This rut affects every decision we make and therefore, the paths our lives take.
Continuing to think about problems, goals, and situations with the same mindset that you’ve always taken, will continue to land you in the same places that you have always landed. Taking a fresh, new perspective on your outlook will open you up to new ideas, tactics, goals, insights, and feelings, which will certainly take you somewhere new and different than where you have previously been.
"Change your thinking, change the world" also means to instruct you to change your thinking not only in regard to yourself but also in regard to the dominant paradigm. The most successful people have unique ideas. They thought outside of the box – outside of the range of thoughts and ideas that others have had. They then put those thoughts into action. Continuing to do what others do will not get you farther than those people got.
Spring is an easy time to feel empowered. It feels like the start of new adventures. Change your thinking as your head into new endeavors this spring. Take a new perspective by looking at a situation from someone else's eyes. Throw out numerous ideas to solve a problem, even if they sound ridiculous at first. Sometimes, just allowing your mind to imagine for a minute that a tactic could work, unearths ways in which they actually will. Fresh, positive thoughts are your friends. Stay goal-oriented, set high goals, and look at your life and its problems in a new way.
